Caring for the working poor
The Laundry Love program makes a local laundromat available the third Wednesday afternoon of every month to families and individuals who otherwise could not afford to do laundry. Laundry Love is a nationally recognized effort that provides money and volunteers to help wash the clothes and bedding of individuals and/or families living in poverty.
St. Clement’s Laundry Love participation is led by Tina Inglish and a group of regular, committed volunteers, in partnership with volunteers from Christ Lutheran Church. Since November of 2016, the San Clemente Laundry Love volunteers have served over 100 different people, while also getting to know them and providing play and learning opportunities for their children.
There are many ways to become involved:
- Become a Laundry Love Volunteer. There are many roles in Laundry Love ranging from checking in the customers; putting soap and quarters in the machines; working side by side as the customers load the washers, dryers, & fold their clothes. We work 2 hour shifts from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of the month.
- Contribute financially. On the first Sunday of every month, we will be taking a collection for Laundry Love at coffee hour. You may also contribute at any time; just make sure your check or envelope has a notation that your donation is for Laundry Love. It costs approximately $8.00-$10.00 to wash and dry the equivalent of 6 loads of laundry.
- Contribute supplies. Laundry soap, dryer sheets, bottled water and snacks are some ideas.
